Harley-Davidson got it’s simple start when William Harley and Arthur Davidson manufactured the first production motorcycle in 1903. The motobike that was built was a racing bike. In 1905 Harley-Davidson wins it’s first race and employs it’s first employee. 3 years later, they sold the first motorcycle to the Detroit Police Department and was used as a police service. They became prosperous that they are able to build a 6 story factory building and started to export their motorcycles to the Japan.
H-D entered the national racing circuit in 1914 and became termed “the wrecking crew”. By 1917 one-third of all motorcycles created would be sold to the military, and has also been the start of the Service School for Harley-Davidson Mechanics, for both military and civilian bikes.
Half of H-D motorcycles were shipped to Germany and were utilized for military service. The first Soldiesr that rode the motorcycle was Corporal roy holtz. H-D became the largest company of motorcycle in 1920. That were there over 2000 dealers in 67 countries around the world.
Most of the competitors of Harley-Davidson disappeared in 1931 except for the Indian Motorcycle Company. In 1953, there were only two successful motocrycle companies, the Harley-Davidson and the Indian Motorcycle Company.
Because the world enters into World War 2, so does Harley return into Military motorcycle generation, and the service school is flipped directly into the military motorcycle service school, generally known as the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. This is the very time that the public had a hard time to get their hands on a H-D Motorcycle.
